Very blurry and not looking our best, but thought I'd share a photo which, I think, shows that Echo has a little more power than she did before. The surface was dreadful in the school today, due to all the rain, but she felt good in trot. This is the right rein too ;) I will ensure some good quality photographic evidence of our progress soon, I promise.
And anyone who can recommend a way to stop me looking down all the time, I will love forever!

As to looking down - I was once told: 'Good riders don't have to look, they feel' - it made me determined to keep my head up so I looked as if I was 'feeling' rather than watching my horse all the time ;))
She does look rounder and stronger and all good things really well done!
what a beautiful, loose trot stride! i bet if you had given the rein there she would have stretched her nose to her toes! glad things are going well for you and echo. whatever you've been doing must be working :-)
as for looking down, i have found navigating a deliberate course around the arena by the dressage letters helps a lot. whether up the long side or through turns, always having a destination in mind makes it easier to keep your focus ahead of you and not get stuck staring at the head and neck...
Can you please explain to a country bum what it means to be on the right/left rein in a trot?
Gecko - sorry for the slow reply to your question! Being on the right rein or the left rein just means whether you are going round to the right or going round to the left - nothing technical!!
